SUZANNE OWENS


Suzanne Owens is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, New York City, and attended the Guildhall of Music and Drama London England. She has been a member of Screen Actor’s Guild and Actor’s Equity in Canada, England and the US. Suzanne received her MFA from Emerson College, Boston.

She won The Frank Cat Press, Chapbook Award, 1996 for Theater Poems. Her book, The Daughters Of Discorda, about criminal women: the first feminists, their history, society and the laws that bound them, was published by BOA Editions: the A. Poulin Jr. New Poets of America series prize, 2000.

Her poem, "Rubber Cork and Whalebone," from a new full-length manuscript, Actresses: Famous Funky and Forgotten, about the actress and her art, placed first in the “Strong RX Medicine” Contest, Margie: American Journal of Poetry. Three of these poems can be seen in Fall/04Vol.3.

Most recently, her poem "Cat scan," from A Hex Gathering Momentum, placed second in The Anne Stanford Poetry Prize contest, University of Southern California Anthology, 2004.

Suzanne has been published in Nimrod, Mississippi Review, Ploughshares, Nimrod,Ontario Review, Mississippi Review and many other journals.
